Friends and Family New Orleans Charity Event Cancelled as Sponsors Unexpectedly Withdraw |

SRI Entertainment has reluctantly announced the cancellation of the Friends and Family Celebrate Ella's Birthday tribute concert April 25 in New Orleans at Generations Hall. The event's goal was to raise money for America’s Wetland Foundation. Citing the withdrawal of its primary sponsor, the label said it had been placed “in the unenviable position” of having to pull the plug on the event as well as the companion free concert in Heritage Park scheduled for April 24 featuring Ray Brown, Jr. and an all-star cast of singers and musicians. We understand that the economic climate makes it difficult for corporations to express their charitable instincts, but we can’t find fault with anyone because we don’t walk in their shoes. This literally comes out of the blue. We’re shocked. It’s a terrible disappointment for us, the artists, crew, our associates in New Orleans and everyone in state and city government who have been so gracious with their time and energy in trying to make this work.
