Billie Holiday is the most famous of all jazz singers. She was named "Lady Day" by Lester Young. Her innovative behind-the-beat phrasing and the emotional intensity that she put into the words she sang gave her a unique style and sound. Holiday was discovered by John Hammond singing in Harlem night clubs and he arranged for her to record with Benny Goodman in 1933. In 1935 she joined theTeddy Wilson Band and she recorded some of her finest jazz performances on which she was joined by the finest jazz musicians of the time. These are live recordings, unreleased studio out takes and rehearsal tapes that until now have not been made available. We hope you enjoy these very rare musical moments by the great Billie Holiday.
